Biography

Chacona, Nicholas P. 

 Nicholas P. "Nick" Chacona 97 of 213 N. Elmer Ave., Sayre, PA. passed away on Sunday December 27, 2009 at the Elderwood Health Care Facility, Waverly, NY with his loving wife of 70 years Ozzie by his side.

Nick was born on September 2, 1912 in Ithaca, NY the son of the late Paul and Gerogia Chacona.

Nick was a lifetime member of the Sayre Elks 1148 since 1936 he served as Exalted Ruler, Past State President, and Past District President. He served in the United States Navy in 1944, life member of the Catholic War Vets, American Legion, Sayre VFW, and life member of the Sayre Fire Department . Nick was named man of the year by Bini Brith, served on the board of directors of the Robert Packer Hospital and the First National Bank of Bradford County, past chairman of the Valley United Way, and member of the Church of the Epiphany, Sayre. Nick was the co-founder of the Sayre Little League with Tom Worthington. On September 5, 2008 Sayre Mayor Denny Thomas honored Nick with a proclamation making September 5th Nick Chacona day in Sayre.

Nick and his wife Ozzie owned and operated Chacona’s Restaurant in Sayre for 70 years. Nick served as Sayre councilmen for four years, and as Mayor for 28 years.

Nick is survived by his loving wife of 72 years Ozzie whom he married in 1938. Sons Chris, William, and Paul Chacona. Grandchildren: Michelle, Vicky, Kelly, Nick, Debbie, Keisha, and Shannon. Several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Nick is predeceased by a son Marcus Chacona. Brothers John and Ted Chacona. Sister Bertha Chacona.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday December 29, 2009 from 4-7 PM at the Blauvelt Funeral Home 625 Broad St., Waverly NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday December 30, 2009 at 10:00 AM at the Church of the Epiphany, Sayre Pa.

Burial will be held in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, Pa.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Nick’s name may be made to: Epiphany School Stevenson St., Sayre, Pa. 18840.
